East End Phoenix secured their first LUL win of the season on Sunday to cap off an excellent month for the Club.
Halloween party hangovers were put aside as Phoenix beat a strong Titans XXL side to make an amends for a 3-0 defeat to the same team in the Titans Birthday Tournament earlier this month.
Titans started well, putting on early pressure, but it was Phoenix who went in front with a goal from James Mabbutt cutting in from the left before finding the bottom-right corner of the net. Things got even better for Phoenix when some excellent midfield allowed James Little to slot the ball neatly past the Titans keeper.
Just a few minutes before half-time, Titans found themselves back in the game after being awarded a controversial free-kick following what looked an excellent sliding challenge by Steve Sawyer. A well-organised wall and in-form keeper David Morrow had no chance in keeping out what was an excellent goal.
Phoenix started the second half brightly, creating a number of excellent chances but it was a further 30 minutes before the lead was restored to 2 goals. A free kick on the right-hand side allowed James Little to swing the ball in with his left foot evading everyone in the box and making its way into the net, securing a well-deserved away win for Phoenix.
The win sees Phoenix move to 6th in the table ahead of next week’s home game versus Titans 2Brewers.
