Phoenix battled wintry conditions at Wanstead Flats, coming from behind twice to make it three wins in three games in all competitions.

The east-enders opted to play into the wind in the first half, anticipating worsening whether and this ensured early pressure from Titans, who were searching for their first LUL win of the season. Mid-way into the first half, the pressure paid off when Titans took the lead with an excellent strike from the edge of the box.

Phoenix were level minutes later after a free-kick was awarded for a foul on Alex Kohnert, who had made a darting run down the left and to the edge of the box. James Mabbutt drilled the ball in low and it was a Titans player who put the ball in the back of the net in an attempt to clear.

Titans went ahead again before half time, after a goal kick was caught by the wind and played in to the box for a cool finish by the Titans striker.

As expected, the weather worsened in the second half and Phoenix made two changes, bringing James Goodman in at centre half and pushing Steve Sawyer into central midfield. Things improved for Phoenix, who began to push forward, but it was half an hour before any clear-cut chances were made. Finally, a corner was received by James Goodman, who played the ball across the box and it was Speedie Gazelle who headed into the net.

The game looked to be headed for a draw but Phoenix pushed on and were rewarded with a goal five minutes from time, courtesy of a lob from 35 yards from Speedie Gazelle, a goal which both teams took a few seconds to register!

It may not have been pretty, but perseverance paid off for Phoenix and a welcome three points puts them 6th on goal difference, equal on points to Titans XXL in 4th. Manager James Little, who has had a very positive start to his first year in charge, will be pleased to see a defensively stronger Phoenix side this year, something which the team will seek to build on throughout November.
